FAQs

Is it worth painting my kitchen cabinets?

Yes, painting your kitchen cabinets can be worth it for several reasons. It is a cost-effective way to update the look of your kitchen without a complete renovation. Painting cabinets can give them a fresh and modern appearance, allowing you to transform the space according to your style preferences. Additionally, painting cabinets can increase their durability and protect them from wear and tear.

What is the downside to painting kitchen cabinets?

While painting kitchen cabinets has its benefits, there are a few downsides to consider. First, it can be a time-consuming and a labour-intensive process, especially if you're doing it yourself. Proper preparation, including sanding and priming, is essential for achieving a smooth and long-lasting finish. Additionally, if the cabinets have a glossy or textured surface, achieving a professional-looking result may be more challenging. Lastly, if the cabinets are made of low-quality materials, painting may not significantly improve their overall appearance or longevity. It is hard to get a finish that a professional painter can achieve.

Is it better to spray or paint kitchen cupboards?

Whether to spray or paint kitchen cupboards depends on several factors. Spraying can provide a smoother and more modern finish, especially for cabinets with a highly glossy surface. It also tends to be faster than traditional brush or roller painting. However, spraying requires specialised equipment and a controlled environment to minimize overspray and achieve even coverage. Brush or roller painting, on the other hand, can be more accessible for DIY projects and cabinets with a simpler design. It allows for more control and precision but may require additional time and effort to achieve a smooth finish. To hand paint and achieve a real top-quality finish is challenging to come close to a professional kitchen painter.

Do painters paint inside cupboards?

Typically, professional painters do not paint the inside of kitchen cupboards unless specifically requested by the homeowner. The primary reason for this is that the insides of cabinets are not usually visible when the doors are closed. Painting the interior may add unnecessary time, cost, and effort to the project. However, if you prefer a consistent look throughout your cabinets or if you have glass-fronted or open cabinets where the interior is visible, you can discuss your specific requirements with the painter. They can provide guidance on the best approach to achieve your desired outcome.
