Preparation

Before starting the painting process, David carefully prepares the kitchen. He begins by removing the doors and drawers and cleaning and degreasing all surfaces. The cleaning process involves using a sugar soap solution and water to get rid of any grease and dirt.

Next, David focuses on surface preparation. He begins by masking off floors, worktops, walls, and other areas with lining paper and various tapes. This step ensures that paint does not accidentally get on these areas.

Once the surfaces are prepared, David moves on to sanding techniques. This step is crucial to ensure proper adhesion and key for the primer. By sanding the surfaces, he creates a rough texture that allows the primer to adhere better.

After sanding, David applies Zinsser Bin, a high adhesion shellac primer. This primer is chosen specifically to resolve oak tannin and provide opacity. David applies two coats of primer to ensure thorough coverage.

Once the primer is dry, David chooses the right paint for the job. He takes into consideration factors such as color, finish, and durability. With the right paint selected, David applies five top coats to achieve a silky smooth and brush mark-free finish.

Throughout the entire process, David pays close attention to detail and uses high-quality materials and techniques. This ensures that he is able to achieve a quality finish that satisfies the client.
